Guide to getting a Personal Access Token for Tableau Server or Cloud

For this post, you will need a Tableau Cloud or Server access; if you don’t have it, check my previous post on How to get your Tableau Online Sandbox.

Personal Access Token (PAT) Access

The following part is optional for reviewing access permissions. You can try to continue skipping it or getting a Tableau Sandbox by following my post on How to get your Tableau Online Sandbox.

First, we are going to check if you have the privileges to request a Personal Access Token (PAT) To do that, go to your Tableau Site and search the gear icon at the bottom left.

Tableau Cloud Settings menu

If you do not see the Settings option, it is because you are connected with a user without Administration privileges.

After selecting Settings, go to the General tab and search for the words Personal Access using the browser search feature and you will something similar to the following image:

Be sure PAT is enabled, and your user has access by All users or is in a Group with access.
